Robert Hopkins Environmental: Drainage Upgrade

Building the Future: Inside Our Latest Construction Project

At Chris Spence Services Ltd, we take pride in turning ambitious ideas into reality. Our latest construction project reflects our unwavering commitment to quality, efficiency, and innovation in the industry. In this blog post, we’ll take you behind the scenes to showcase what we’re building, how we’re executing it, and why it’s a game-changer.

Project Overview

Situated in West Bromwich, this project aims to upgrade the client's existing drainage system, addressing long-standing surface water management issues. Given the site's nature as a hazardous waste management facility, traditional drainage solutions weren’t feasible. This project required a tailored approach, incorporating flow management and onsite water storage. Compounding the challenge, the site needed to remain fully operational throughout the construction process, adding significant logistical complexities.

Innovative Design and Engineering

After extensive discussions and collaboration, we developed a comprehensive solution tailored to the site's unique needs. Key project highlights include:

  • Implementing advanced surface water storage systems using interceptors.

  • Installing over 500m of 150mm pipework across the yard and fully reinstating the concrete surface.

  • Incorporating penstock valves to control water flow, with the option for offsite tankering if required.

  • Integrating more than 20 new gullies into the newly constructed drainage network.

  • Coordinating closely with onsite stakeholders to minimise disruption and maintain seamless operations.

Challenges and Solutions

No construction project is without challenges. Working within an active site with high levels of heavy plant and machinery traffic presented a significant obstacle. Through strategic planning and close client communication, we implemented proactive solutions, including real-time coordination with a dedicated onsite point of contact to swiftly remove any obstructions and keep operations running smoothly.

What’s Next?

As we progress, we’ll continue to share project updates, behind-the-scenes insights, and key milestones. Stay tuned for more as we bring this essential upgrade to completion.
